Shareholder Tax
The sale of shares is generally subject to capital gains tax (CGT), calculated on the gain between acquisition cost and sale price, with allowances for inflation from 1975 to 2003. In specific cases, such as when shares are trading stock or held by investment intermediaries, income tax may apply. Companies selling shares may benefit from exemptions, such as the participation exemption for holding companies, provided conditions regarding shareholding, residency, and trading status are met.
